Daniel E. Kates, M.D., M.B.A.

Daniel serves as Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, and joined Cytokinetics in April 2019. Prior to Cytokinetics, he served as Vice President & Head of Medical Affairs at Achaogen from 2017-2019.

Prior to Achaogen, he spent over 14 years at Gilead Sciences helping to build and lead various aspects of Medical Affairs, ultimately serving as the Global Head of Medical Affairs Operations. He started his career in R&D with Abbott after having practiced clinical medicine for over a decade.

Daniel received his M.D. from the University of Arizona, completed his internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Emergency Medicine at Maricopa Integrated Health System, and earned his MBA from Golden Gate University. He also served in the California State Military Reserve and held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, functioning as a Battalion Medical Officer and Company Commander.

Daniel enjoys spending time his wife, daughters, and the family’s rare breed Lagotto Romagnolos.
