Prodromos Anthopoulos, M.D.

Prodromos was appointed Vice President, Head of Medical Affairs Europe in August 2023 to help design, build-up and lead the Medical Affairs organization across Europe from our newly established office in Zug, Switzerland through a strong partnership with our global Medical Affairs team. He is a board-certified cardiologist and pharmaceutical executive as well as a highly accomplished and experienced R&D leader.

Prior to joining Cytokinetics Prodromos served as VP, Therapeutic Area Head Cardiovascular at Arena Pharmaceuticals (and then Pfizer for a year after Arena was acquired by Pfizer). At Arena he set up the European Medical Affairs team and prior to that he was the Senior Medical Director for Europe at The Medicines Company. Before joining the industry, Prodromos was an internationally recognized Interventional Cardiologist having worked in large teaching hospitals both in London (UK) and in Athens (GR). Additionally to his clinical duties, his involvement with clinical research focused on acute coronary syndromes, thrombosis, atherosclerosis and heart failure.

Prodromos received his M.D. from the Medical School of the University of Athens. After completing his military service, he specialized in Cardiology at Evangelismos General Hospital in Athens and then did his fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at St Thomas’ hospital in London, UK before returning as Consultant Cardiologist in the Cath Lab of Evangelismos hospital until 2012 when he transitioned to the industry. In 2015 he completed a two-year post graduate program in Pharmaceutical Medicine at the University of Basel.

Prodromos resides in Zug, Switzerland with his wife and their three children. He enjoys taking daily walks, reading history, following politics, and watching his two sons play ice hockey in Zug. In the free time the family loves skiing in the Swiss mountains or travel and explore Greece often by sailing the Aegean or Ionian sea since he is a skipper, and they all love the ocean.
