At Cytokinetics, our values and commitment to corporate social responsibility encourage giving to organizations that are aligned with our therapeutic areas of interest. We provide corporate contributions, grants and charitable support to a diverse group of organizations that we believe make a real difference. To us, giving is more than just financial support. It is an opportunity to create or expand partnerships with those who share our focus and passion for the communities we serve.

We are proud to support the work of scientists, researchers, medical professionals and community-based organizations that are finding ways to increase disease awareness, expand early detection and diagnosis, and help improve treatment quality and patient support. From advancing scientific knowledge to helping our local communities, we are committed to supporting those impacted by cardiovascular and neuromuscular diseases.

Corporate Grants

Grants provide funding for specific projects or activities that support scientific exchange, increase community education and advance services on important health topics of interest to Cytokinetics without tangible return to the company.

Projects or activities should have defined objectives, start and end dates and address a specific medical, scientific or community need. Cytokinetics awards grants to programs from local, regional, and international organizations that are replicable, scalable and designed to have a lasting and meaningful effect in our communities, including scholarships, education programs, patient and family education or support services.

Charitable Donations

Charitable donations provide unrestricted funding for qualified 501(c)(3) organizations (or similar organizations that qualify under the Internal Revenue Code or IRS regulations) whose missions are aligned with Cytokinetics’ research and disease focus areas and support scientific discovery, improved patient care, advocacy or access to healthcare; as well as areas that may positively impact the communities in which we live and work.

No benefit may be given to Cytokinetics in return for support unless such benefit is incidental in nature, such as fair recognition of company name on a list of donors.

Corporate Sponsorships

Sponsorships provide funding for events and/or activities that educate, raise awareness, advance thought partnership and / or fundraise for topics of interest to Cytokinetics. Sponsorships may provide Cytokinetics with exhibit space, banners, a seat/table at the event and other forms of recognition that promote our mission and raise awareness for diseases aligned with our research. Sponsorship requests should include formal levels of support and corresponding recognition.

Sponsorships may also include membership in industry or corporate organizations, roundtable memberships and other similar industry partner programs with pre-specified levels and recognition.

Independent Medical Education Grants

Independent Medical Education (IME) is generally defined as education for healthcare professionals (HCPs) provided by an independent educational provider, such as a community hospital, academic center, medical society/association or medical education & communication company. IME grants provide funding for non-accredited and accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, which offer medical education credits to healthcare professionals upon successful completion. IME must consist of medical educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance of healthcare professionals. As part of industry-supported IME, and in keeping with ACCME, AAMC, PhRMA, and other applicable industry guidelines and codes, Cytokinetics has no role in determining content, faculty, or program development of IME.

Cytokinetics will consider supporting medical education activities in the following topic areas:

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)

  • Epidemiology and clinical features of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)​
  • Cardiac physiology and pathophysiology of HCM, including peak oxygen uptake (pVO2)​
  • Current therapies for HCM and unmet medical need in the treatment of HCM​
  • Patient journey in HCM​
  • HCM diagnosis and care for allied healthcare professionals​
  • Biologic rationale for future HCM therapies​
  • Sarcomere dysfunction as a therapeutic target​
  • Mechanism of action of Cardiac Myosin Inhibitors (CMIs)

Other research focus areas may be considered. All areas of interest are the sole discretion of Cytokinetics and may be subject to change at any time.

Cytokinetics Communications Grant Program

Our 2024 submission process has closed. A call for 2025 proposals will be issued in early fall 2024.

Each year, the Cytokinetics Communications Grant program awards five (5) grants worth $20,000 each to patient advocacy organizations serving the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), heart failure or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) communities to provide funding in support of communications and outreach. The goal of the Cytokinetics Communications Grant program is to assist patient advocacy organizations in expanding their reach, awareness and community engagement by providing resources for new or crucial communications initiatives that would otherwise be challenging to implement. Funding from the Cytokinetics Communications Grant program supports marketing and communications programming or personnel activities, depending on each organization’s needs.

Eligible organizations must have nonprofit or registered charity status in the United States, Canada, Europe, or the United Kingdom and serve patient communities in HCM, heart failure or ALS. In addition to the standard due diligence review, applicable anti-bribery anti-corruption review will also be conducted. Of the five grants awarded, four will support cardiovascular programming and one will be directed to ALS. Priority will be given to HCM-specific applications.

Organizations applying for the grant are required to submit a proposal outlining what activities the Communications Grant will support and the potential impact of the funding. Applications will be evaluated by a committee of representatives from Cytokinetics based on the proposal’s alignment with selection criteria. The criteria include outreach expansion, awareness, community engagement, and impact. More details can be found in the application portal and here. Cytokinetics receives more funding requests from outstanding organizations than Corporate Contributions can fund. While it is not possible for every organization to receive funding, those that are in alignment with Cytokinetics’ guidelines and mission are given careful consideration.
